OUTREACH

The Maize in Missouri community participates in a number of outreach programs targeted to undergraduates, high school students, high school teachers, and the public.

Dr. Davis oversees a summer program, MU Research Experience for Teachers, targeted at high school teachers. This program offers them instruction, classroom materials, and follow-up on a variety of topics in plant biology and genomics. Check out our walk through the maize genome and the gene zoo.

The PGI@MU program, funded by an NSF grant to Dr. Cone, brings undergraduates from other institutions to the University of Missouri (MU) each summer to conduct independent research with a plant faculty member.

A variety of other undergraduate internship opportunities exist for students at MU.

The College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (CAFNR) hosts a week-long summer institute for Missouri high school students called the Sciences of Life Academy. The Life Science Quest, also hosted by CAFNR, is aimed at helping high school students learn about careers in science.
